Comparison of Three Newspapers

Local: The Islington Gazette

Stories
Covers stories about the local area such as crimes, local politics, council agendas etc
Headlines
“Gypsy site BATTLE”
Language
The language used is a mixture of the informal and formal language that would be found in broadsheet and tabloid, an example of which is the word ‘Gypsy’ as this is more a slang word and wouldn’t be used in broadsheet newspapers.
Masthead
Like most papers, found across the top of the front page
Splash
The splash is larger than it is in national newspapers, this is because local newspapers tend to have a lot less stories to cover so to make up room they would make their articles longer, use a larger font, make their pictures bigger and include a lot more advertising.
Caption
Describe who is in a picture or what is going on in it
Adverts
Local newspapers have a lot more advertising than national papers, as stated earlier this is because they don’t have a lot of stories to publish and need to make up the space, also their funding is limited as they don’t make as much money off the papers as national papers, the adverts are mostly from local businesses.
